Task 4C) Timescale

Who responsibility?

Storyboards: Everyone within our group as it is our individual idea of what is going to be happening within the suite of idents but we need to make sure that it is consistant through the theme of community and the brand identify.

Location Recce: The person who will need to take responsibility of taking photos for the location recees in terms of the location that we are going to be in the idents is the director's job which is Rosie's part since it is her idea to film in these locations.

Risk Assessment: This will be my job to do this as if I do not have this done in time before we go into production then, I am putting the crew and the actors who are going to be part of the idents in danger since they would not be noticed about the dangers at all.

Booking Kit: In terms of booking the equipment kit to make the suite of idents, I am going to be writing down of what is needed exactly before getting the equipment manager putting his signature for getting permission.

Rough and Final Edits of the suite of idents: In terms of editing the suite of idents for the YouTube channel of Christ The King, this job is going to be handle by James White while Lawrence does help him with putting the after effects onto the idents so we can meet the deadline for the work which is 26th May 2017. Although if James who is the main editor for the idents does feel unwell on anyday during the shooting, then Lawrence will take over on a temporary basis untill James comes back.

How are we going about filming these suite of idents for the YouTube channel of Christ The King?

The way that we are going in terms of filming these suite of idents for the YouTube channel of Christ The King is by working together as a group of four by doing one ident at the time but we need to make sure that we can get this done before the deadline.

Task 4c) Production Budget and Resources

Resources attached to budget (costume, props, equipment hire/purchase + who's responsibility and where your will source it (eBay, amazon screen shot etc)

When it does come to the resources that we need to make the suite of idents for CTK YouTube channel, it is my responsibility as I will need to buy these stuff since as a group, we have come up an individual ideas of what is going to happen within them but we have the budget of £50 so we need to make sure that the money is well spent.

I am sourcing this from the website of Wilko shop where I will need to buy the paper which it will cost about £3.00.

This is the football that I am going to be buying for the ident for James' ident which cost about £7.00 and the source is from Sports Direct.

Task 2C

Task 2C

Job: Producer (Daniel S)

For this task 2C, I am going to be writing an blog diary where I am explaining about the personal and professional qualities that going to be fulfil this brief which the client has set us to complete it before the deadline date which has been set but for this unit of 32 and 5, I am going to be the producer for this project that we are going to be working on next which is making an suite of idents for the client of David Pearson.

Identify opportunities for self-development: During the role of being the producer, there is the opportunity of making sure that I keep myself well-organised during the pre-production, production and post-production stages because there is an deadline that we need to meet so the client will be able to work on-time which I am taking the previous experience of working within the music video production with this group.

New skills: By adding the previous experience of the Music Video production of making sure that the production team were well-organised and making sure that the work was done on-time but there is another experience that I can add my skill-set is the reading and annotating the brief through the different sections of nature and demand which as a team, we discussed with the client about the different concerns that we had with the brief.

Multi-skilling: Due to having of group of four within a team, they will need to take some of the work that is required to be done so we are on-time in terms of the work being done but it is taking some of their skill-set of doing this.

Contributions to project brief: In terms of the contribution to this project brief, I am the producer for this production team where I do make sure the suite of idents and other work that is required to be done on-time so we can meet the deadline that the client has set for the live brief of Unit 32 and 5 of the work needs to be handed in.

Task 2B: Group Reflective Work (Unit 32 and Unit 5)

For the task of 2B, I am going to be my individual contribution of this within the group as an article because, the other groups including us had met the client for the first time which we had asked different questions that we were concerned about so the client did give us feedback about it. For my group, I am going to be answering the questions of three and four which are about the constraints and amendments to the final product.

Consultation with client* (questions you had about the brief & client’s response) (Lawrence)

We had a meeting with the client on Tuesday 30th march 2017 in order to discuss information regarding the brief that was set for us. It is important to consult with the client because by doing so, you will be able to know how creative you can be whilst keeping to the clients preferences. It is also important to consult with the client because that way you will be able to discuss the brief and the ideas within the brief. You will also be able to acquire information regarding what the client wants to see in the project. The client's name was David Pearson and we had to sit in our production teams to negotiate with the client in terms of what he wanted specifically and how creative we could be with these idents. We negotiated the fact that the idents could not be seasonal because there was no snow for winter, not enough sun for summer and no red leaves for autumn. So the client agreed that these idents don’t have to be seasonal anymore given the limitation.  Our second concern with the brief was the duration because we thought that it would be better if the duration could be shorter because our idents didn’t last as long as 30 seconds but our ideas were imaginative so therefore, we thought it would be a good idea to shorten the duration.

Degree of discretion in interpreting brief*; (nature or demands of the brief that were negotiated, what the experience was like, how free or limited are you to use discretion in your ideas - brand identity, colours, satisfying client’s stakeholders etc) (Lawrence)

There must be a degree of discretion in terms of negotiating with the client because it will allow you think about what the client wants along with how creative you want to be. If we bypass the boundary of how much we can be creative, then there is too much discretion which will lead to the brief being unfulfilled. We must take the client's expectations into consideration whilst thinking about how creative we can be in creating this project. Like for example: During the negotiation process, there is always a degree of discretion with the client which means how creative we can be as long as we take the client’s ideas and suggestions into account in other words, David Pearson stated that we didn’t have to use only white and purple in our idents we could use a variety of colours but he wants to keep the colour scheme of the logo. He also stated that he wanted stakeholders, students, and the parents to perceive the college as formal so that limited the extent of our creativity since most of our ideas were formal but they weren’t engaging enough to entertain the target audience and fulfil the brief.

Constraints (legal, ethical, regulatory)*; (Copyright, use of under 18s in the video, discrimination of ethnicity, gender, religious belief) (Daniel Storey)

When it does come to the legal constraints, it needs to be under consideration of when making the media products because it is going to be distributed onto the video steaming service YouTube for the channel of CTK although the final products will need to be suitable for the intended target audience. Although in the media industry, there are many other regulations and laws that are put into place as well like for example: in terms of the ethical constraints and issues, we needed to make sure that as a group that the ideas wasn't offending and discriminating other people's background, gender and their religious belief.

In terms of copyright when it does comes to making these media products for the client, it is very important that it doesn't have material in which we didn't get any permission at all as it could get an copyright strike on one of the videos if it was uploaded onto YouTube so in order to avoid this, we need to show proof that the group has got permission to use that particular material like for example: in the suite of idents, we need to use the same free royalty soundtrack throughout the four idents.

For the actors that are going to be appearing in our suite of idents, they will need to sign release form to say that we have got permission for them to be part of the video in which, the videos are going to be put onto the YouTube Channel of CTK since if we didn't get any permission then it is breaking the legal terms and not only that, we need to make sure that the actors are at an suitable age. According to the 'The Children Performance and Activities Regulation Act', there should not be any underage teenagers since it actually could bring up stereotypes since as an production team it is our responsibility to making sure that the final product does meet the terms of the brief that was set for us.

Amendments to the proposed final product (Daniel Storey)

When it making the final product, we need to make sure the ideas and themes does work in a way in which, it does create an sense of having an better package for the suite of idents because it does meet the demands within the brief and deadline as well but when it comes to the stages, the product could look different once we upload it onto the YouTube channel of CTK so we would need to inform the client of what has happened and see if he does agree with it.

Amendments to budget*; (James White)

When we spoke to our client, there were questions that our production team wanted to raise during the initial meeting about any types of amendments that we wanted to make to the original budgets. The original budget that was given out to us was for a maximum of £50, we wanted to make a few smaller adjustments, we wanted to increase the budget slightly, this was in case we did not manage to hand the work in time for the deadline, however, a demand or suggestion such as this was not verified, this is because we must complete the work on time and must work to the deadline that was originally set for us. We wanted to also change the budget slightly because we thought that travel costs would put a major dent in to the budget, if we were to get the trains, however, as we discovered now we will not be using this type of transport regularly, we wouldn't need to increase the budget, however, we will be spending the budget mainly on props to fit in to the idea for the suite of idents that we have, also lunch on the days that we are out, will be used as money taken from the original budget we have provided for us.

Amendments to conditions; (Rosie)

As a group we all had to read the brief carefully to make sure we fully understood the requirements for the suite of idents. When speaking with the client we discussed the amendments needed to make the process better for example a longer deadline enabling us to get it down to the best of our ability and the high standard that is expected. By changing the conditions to our final product this will have an effect on the final outcome. For instance if the client was to perhaps change the target audience for the product then we will need to change some of the conditions such as location to meet the standards. This will also have an effect on the production team as it means more time will be needed to work on the project. However, the company are able to avoid this by better communication with the client or they can get a signature to say that the product once completed cannot be changed.

Task 3D: Negotiating Brief and Production Plan

For this task 3D, I am going to be writing an production plan before we have to pitch to the client of our group's idea for the suite of idents that we are going to be making so it does ensure it does promote the college of Christ The King: St Mary's.

1: An Production Budget

Since we have an budget of £50 to us, we need to make sure that the money is spent wisely because if we had to spent all in one go but we needed for something which is connected to the making the suite of idents, it would be impossible to get it and the responsibility will fall on the producer since he/she is managing the production of what needs to be done as each part of the team will have different roles that needs to be done so the work needs to be done before the deadline date. So we need to make sure that we do spend the money correctly rather than in one go like for example: for the equipment of camera and tripod for which it is needed for the making the suite of idents will be free as we are going to be hiring out the equipment from the college but we had to do this industry, then it will cost of a lot of money to buy it and making sure that it is looked-after well but if does not happen, then we will need to buy an brand new piece of equipment that does get damaged.

3: Production plan of meeting requirements with timescales (stages of pre-production and production tasks which has the team members involved with their roles)

Before it does come making the suite of idents for the client, we need to plan of what is going to be happening in terms of the stages of pre-production, production and post-production stages but there is going to be an timescales that is going to be set for even we can start making the idents for the client so it does promote the college of Christ The King: St Mary's.

Stages of Pre-Production

Consultation

At first, we were given the brief that the whole class will be working on in different groups but after looking through the brief and checking to see if there was any concerns of what is required and then we met the client for the first time which David Pearson set the brief as an live one. During this meeting with the client for the first time, we decided to tell the client about our idea for one of suite of idents that we are planning to make for him so it does promote the college by making sure that the audience and students will have good enough reasons to come which he did give us some feedback.

Pitching

Before meeting the client for the second time to pitch our ideas to the camera, we need to make sure that the pre-production work is done so we can put in as a folder so the client can see of what is going to be happening in terms of making suite of idents for the college. This partculair folder of work needs to have:
  • Budget
  • Production planning
  • Possible solutions
  • Designs of the ident
  • Treatment
  • Problems of Heath and Safety
  • Resources
Production

By completing the pre-production work as a group is all good but we need to move on the production side where as a group, we need to decide when we are starting to shoot the suite of idents while getting the equipments and props needed to start the production so the group need to make sure that they will arrive at the location at the right time as well.

Post-Production

After completing the shooting of four idents, the editor within our group will start to edit the idents by doing the rough cuts of what it does look like without the effects and logos but after getting feedback, then the editor will be able to add into extra parts that are needed within the ident and then export as an mp4 video but we need to consult with the client.

Review and Distrbution

Before we can upload it onto YouTube to generate some money through the views, we need to consult with the client to show the videos that we made to promote the college of Christ The King: St Mary's as David Pearson can give us feedback of what changes need to be made within the idents but if there is no changes need to be made and the client is happy with it, then it is possible that we can upload the videos onto YouTube which is a video platform that the target audience of 15-19 years old can see it.
